(Also asked on microsoft.public.windows.server.migration and
microsoft.public.pocketpc without resolution)
Just as I thought that I'd cracked migrating from a Win2k Server to a
new box running Win2k3 Standard, I find that I cannot access network
shares from my Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox PDA (running WM5 and
accessing my WiFi access point via 802.11g).
During the server migration process, I had to upgrade the Active
Directory to suit the new NOS. I received a message that Windows 95
computers would no longer be able to join the domain, but there was no
warning about Windows Mobile devices. Prior to the migration, to access
network resources I'd establish the WiFi connection and open File
Explorer. In File Explorer, I'd tap Menu -> Open Path, enter the path
(\\Server \Share) and tap Open. The system would respond by asking me
for user, domain, and password and providing these let me access the
network share. Now, all I get is a login failure notice when trying to
access shares on the new server. After repeatedly trying to access
various shares, I checked the domain account to discover that it's not
locked out. When I first migrated the domain to Win 2k3, DHCP and DNS
both listed the PDA and my Win 98 machines. Today, I note that these are
no longer listed.
The TCP/IP side of things is working fine (I can connect to the network
and browse the Internet), but I can't access resources in the domain
from my PDA. For that, neither can I connect to the new server via
terminal services (I used to use that for simple domain admin while the
domain was under the control of the old Win2k Server box). However, I
can access shares on a Win2k Pro workstation that is part of the same
domain via the local administrator account for that machine, but not
when trying to use a domain account (even domain admin).
I've tried searching the MS KB, but came up empty-handed. Can anyone
help?
