Share level access settings and shared resources should be checked. You
MUST have 98 set as *Share Level Access* and MUST share at least one
resource; with *File and Printer Sharing* installed and configured; and
Microsoft Netrworking Client installed. Its generally easier to setup
corresponding {same} names, shares, and passwords for the shared resouces
and logins/logons. Make sure the XP/2000 computers reflect [have a logon
for] the name and password used *on the 9X system*. Depending upon what type
of sharing access you have used on the NT systems, you may need to configure
other aspects.
TCP/IP addressing and workgroup naming would be second in line, make sure
that you are WORKGROUP as the name [default] across the network, or one name
for the entire network. Ensure that the Gateways are set properly. Make sure
you have set all computers to use IPv4, as IPv6 is not available in 9X OSs
and that does cause issues when connecting.
Next, is to re-check the setups/settings in the routers [make sure both are
NOT set at the same base IP address for access], firewalls, any Anti-Virus
and Anti-SpyWare progs for network blocking or necessity to add the
computer/wireless into the local network. Open/closed Ports should also be
checked [firewall and Anti-V {on access scanning, EMail, etc.}] to ensure
they have not interferred with local network access.
Re-check ALL WEP settings in the devices to ensure the SIDD, and the key
and other requirements are the same for ALL the WEP connected machines. ALL
computers must be set for WEP at the same encryption level as well.
