That means you've got access to the net. When you type http://<IP address>,
say that of yahoo.com in the browser address window don't you get to the
site?

There's certainly a pb with your DNS settings. Try to manually set the IP
addresses of your ISP's DNS servers.
I don't remember how this is done in XP but I think you've got to right
click on the Local Network icon then on properties
