unable to connect to router wifi network?

Hi, I have 4 pc's at home, all on the same home network, all from the
same router (Belking G+Mimo). All pc's are using Win XP Home.

My two desktop pcs work fine via hardwired ethernet connections to the
router. They can connect to other pcs on the network and to the net.

My netbook (Asus Eeepc 1000HE) also works fine via the wireless part of
the network from the router, and connects to other pcs on the network
and the net.

But the laptop (HP Compaq Presario), which has always worked fine,
yesterday for some reason will not now connect, it now tries to connect
to my router buts fails with an "aquiring network address" message. It
tries to connect for some time (5 to 10 mins) then eventually says
limited or no connectivity.

The laptop then cannot connect to the net or see other pc's on the
network...

However, I can connect this laptop to other wifi networks ok. (I can
tell because several of my neighbours have unsecured networks, and I can
connect to those ok) so the laptop is working and the wifi card in the
laptop is working ok.

So my router is working, and connects my other pc's and to the net, and
my laptop is working and can connect to other wifi networks, but not to
my router or the other pc's on my network?

I have tried deleting the wireless network, and then setting up a new
connection, I have also checked and compared all the wifi settings on
both my netbook (which connects ok) and my laptop (which doesn't
connect), and they appear to be the same as far as I can tell, so a I am
a bit stumped.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem or how it
might be fixed?

As a last thought, which might be connected to this, can windows
services become corrupted?

Thanx.....

Not necessarily. I've found that the WiFi radio creates considerable
heat inside the router, and this particular circuitry might stop working
efficiently. Why certain wifi devices can continue to work while other
such devices don't work anymore is beyond me, but I've seen it plenty.

No, no, just unplug the power from the router for about 10 minutes;
remove the power cable going from its back, and let it cool down. Feel
the router body with your hands from time to time until the router no
longer feels warm to the touch. Then put the power back in, and you
should fine. I know this sounds like the famous Windows reboot to fix
everything solution, and it is a variation of that. Unlike the reboot
solution, this is an actual power-off solution, since it's important to
let the router fully cool down.

Hi pg
does this also mean they can connect to the laptop?

I've seen this also on my single desktop not able to connect to my router
via ethernet cable.
The problem was - it lost its network address.
I then had to redefine the ipconfig setup.

Looks to me as if your laptop is no longer known by the router per
its network address.
You may check the router logfiles for the clients if all 4 devices are
still known.
I assume the laptop will be missing?

So your laptop is no longer known to the router and your network.
Check its ipconfig setup and redefine it (even per static network address
assignment instead of dynamic associated one).

NO, your netbook and the laptop should have different network addresses.
It looks to me like a setup problem of your laptop.
