When I try to browse or access shares on a Windows 2003
server from old windows 95 machines I get a Enter network
Password dialog box, requesting a password for Resource:
\\servername\IPC$. I cannot access the shares. Win 98
pcs are okay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

assuming this is not domain network, you need to create the same username
and password on the server.

make sure client for microsoft networks is installed on
the win95 machine. Logon when prompted as Domain\user
with the corresponsing password. The administrator
password should work too. check the network neighborhood
for the server. Netbeui is a separate protocol to
install as well as tcp/ip. Join same workgroup as the
domain name on the server. (If active directory set up to
create the domain.)

Thanks for the post however I'm still stuck. I migrated
an NT4 domain to Win2003. Currently have 1 2003 domain
controller and a NT BDC. All user can log on fine and
access shares on the old NT4 box. Only Windows 95 users
cannot access shares on the 2003 server although the
server can be seen when browsing, selecting the server to
see available shares gives me the access error. I
reinstalled 95 on a pc and now can't logon to the network,
I'm told a domain controller is not available. DHCP has
successfully assigned all network parameters, IP address,
gateway, wins server, etc. I'm thinking there must be
something with the logon proccess that is different on
win95 as compared to 98, NT WS, 200o, and xp. Any further
suggestions. I've tried loging in with
domainname\username and password & username and password

if you have domain network, that will be the different story. check the
network settings and make sure win95 point to the domain. Also an you access
NT 4? if yes, you may also want to install WINS.

Try removing all clients from the NT domain, then rejoin them to the
W2k3. They cannot be in two domains at once. To access both domains at once,
you need to set up domain trusts.

Well you are definately stretching the limits of mixed
mode there. make sure you are loging into the microsoft
network logon rather than the family logon or something
else. 2003 server might need the computer's name added
to the domain users and computers and the permissions on
the directory allow for access to that computer name.
