Unabel to share printer or files on network - lost ability

I am unable to share the printer on my network any longer
as well I can no longer see shared files on the other
computer. I was able to do this after I initially
installed the system some time ago. I can only think of 2
things I did which may have affected it. I installed a
new printer, Insatlled drivers on both computers on the
network, and I have also up-graded my anti-virus/network
software. I think the virus software may be the cause. I
was wondering if anyone experienced the same problem and
what they did to correct it. Thanks for help in advance.

Most commonly, running a firewall on the computer
produces this. Check if the anti-virus also works as
firewall. You need either to configure it to trust the
LAN IP range (and allow NetBIOS traffic), or just disable
it.

The Windows built-in firewall (ICF) should also be turned
off (second tab on the properties dialog for the network
on Network Connections for XP).
