Ultra VNC

I'm running UltraVNC on both the client and server of my home network, very good it is too, but I was wondering if I could use it to
access a computer (also running uVNC) via the Internet (haven't tried it yet) ?

on the same subject, is there a better/faster version of VNC I could try ?

I don't know about UltraVNC specifically, but most other "flavours" allow you
to do this. In fact, I do it myself.

TightVNC is probably the fastest there is. Make sure you set compression to
highest, quality to lowest, and choose 8-bit only.

There are several versions of VNC around, some of them have features
that you may prefer.

You can use VNC over the Internet if you have access to the relevant
ports on the target machine. That may mean that you need to tunnel
through one or more firewalls. You should have firewalls protecting any
Internet connected machine.

I haven't found one - and none of the VNCs seem to run at anywhere
near the speed of an old version of Carbon Copy that came on a mag CD.
Have you tried tweaking the settings - I found ( as stated on the tips
page ) that turning off hardware acceleration made a big difference..

Surely it depends on the connection speed, as to whether one needs to
set quality to lowest, etc. If both ends are ADSL, then better speed
for data transfer is possible and there's little need to sacrifice it
in terms of quality of image (I have a setting of 6 - ie towards the
best end [9] on the quality setting, for ADSL connections). Peter.

I use it to control my PC at home, from work. At work I have a 2mbit
download, and at home a 128kbit upload, and unless I use the settings I
mentioned, it can get very slow.
