Been trying for two days, three attempts, twenty minutes at a time on
hold, to get through to someone to sort out a friends connection. His
ADSL netgear DG632 router syncs but IP connect (No DNS service) fails so
I badly need to speak with someone over there...

Any tips? Consolances? I told you so's?

Are there any support forums for this ISP apart from adslguide.org.uk?

I had a very similar problem, except I was using a DG814 on their 8Mbps
service. I spent 50 minutes on hold at one point! In the end it turned
out to be a router issue - I used their Actiontec and it worked first
time!

Hmmm. The connection had been working perfectly for the first three
weeks of a new install. A week ago my friend told me no mail was
forthcoming and on checking the DG632 router logs...

After ADSL Modem is synch'd (solid green)

17:47:17 pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
17:47:17 Connect: ppp0 {--}
17:47:17 Couldn't increase MTU to 1500
17:47:17 Connection terminated.
17:47:17 PPP negotiation failed.
--- all repeated on each connect attempt including router cycling power

Today it's a bit better but no web sites

00:00:50 pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
00:00:50 Connect: ppp0 {--}
00:00:50 Couldn't increase MTU to 1500
00:00:59 First get lcp
00:00:59 local IP address ###.###.###.###
00:00:59 PPPoA Connect with remote IP address ###.###.###.###
00:00:59 remote IP address ###.###.###.###
00:00:59 PPPoA Connection Successfully Established
00:00:59 PPPoA Connect with Gateway IP Address ###.###.###.###
00:01:17 Got group error |Bad username/password|

And no DNS settings at all. Think they are not letting us connect for
some reason?

I've been with UKO 512K since May and had days with no internet at all, days
with no web browsing, etc etc.. really want to leave them but locked into
their 12m contract

Try to add their DNS servers to see if it makes any difference:

212.135.1.36
195.40.1.36

Their support line is next to useless and the long waiting times racks up
the phone bill...

I found that i had to enter there DNS server ip addy's in Network properties
before I could get a proper connection

Addresses as per Fossils post and make sure you don't have any space's in
your router UKONLINE username - easilly done and hard to spot ( as i found
out with my parents connecion)

Their technical support number 0845 333 3322 is 24 hours and it is muc
easier to get hold of someone late at night / early hours of th
morning. I have phoned them a couple of times at around 2am (whilst o
night duty, I have to add).

Phoning at that time you get through in minutes, Also 8.30am seems t
be good too.

Hope that helps

Check, and double check filters.

I had an exact situation yesterday with a customer.
Router was syncing, but no (apparent) internet connection.

Asked if all phones etc were filtered, to which the reply came "yes"
except that is the phone point behind (?) the built in microwave in the
kitchen!

Filtered that, and everything worked perfectly.

May or may not help, but it resolved my issue.

I have this same problem - still not sorted so any tips appreciated:

Ukonline 8000 Broadband (new)
Linksys ADSL2MUE modem (new)
Dell Inspiron laptop (new) running XP.

ADSL modem says 'connected' (confirmed by Ukonline account usag
report) - have tried both Ethernet & USB connections and 3 differen
browsers - have disabled Norton Internet Security & XP Firewall

EMAIL IS FINE - can send & receive.

Browsers will go to IP address for modem but not any web URLs. Have no
managed to download a single page from anywhere yet.

Have tried almost all advice found so far (including emails fro
Linksys & Ukonline technical support): have manually entered DNS serve
/ alternate DNS addresses (seem OK in computer connection propertie
box) / used 'ping' diagnostics from modem (OK) / checked dynamicall
assigned IP addresses (seem OK).

Can't think of much else except go & buy a different modem.

Any thoughts

LATER THAT SAME DAY.............7.00pm

Having connected a Speedtouch USB modem, switched off BT call divert o
phone line, clicked Synchronous DNS box in Opera browser, and keyed I
address for Yahoo into, suddenly I had web pages. Success!

THE FOLLOWING MORNING.........9.00 - 11.00am

Configuration left exactly as previous night - nothing!!!

Conclusion - it's down to UKOnline
