UK wireless network questions

First, I should explain - I have a wired network based on a Belkin
router, but my new broadband modem is ADSL, and USB, so it doesn't
run through the router (I use a software proxy prog to share out the
internet access). I currently have two wired computers and wish to
add one computer (has no network access) and one laptop (already
wireless) to the network.

The main purpose of adding wireless is to share out the internet
access to the additional computers.

I'm a little confused as to what I can/should get as an access point.
I know I can buy a hardware access point and attach it via the router.
Can I replace the router with a wireless router, or will I run into
problems because the router would not directly connect to the
broadband?

Might be a stupid question, but I can't seem to find a definitive
answer. Any help appreciated.

Also, I'm thinking about using D-Link equipment - specifically the
DWL-900AP for the access point, and a DWL-122 for the computer. Any
comments on this equipment or brand in general are welcome.

If you have a USB modem, I think you are hosed. My cable modem has USB and
ethernet. Is that a possiblity? If so, switch to the ethernet option, then
go

If you have only USB, it gets more complex, as one computer needs to be on
at all times to handle the USB modem. I don't know, but you might want to
look into getting an old system just to handle that, then hook it up to your
router, and the other systems to the router. The first system could be made
into a pretty good firewall too.

I'd get a different modem, one with ethernet.

Is this a case of the telco giving people USB modems to make it harder for
them to share their internet connection?

Probably, since they also sell network-capable dsl modems, and nowhere
does it mention that you can share your network without them...
