BT has announced plans to widen the availability of SDSL broadband
services following the commercial launched its wholesale broadband
symmetric products.

Tell me about it. For a while I've been thinking about my upstream
speed. These days I tend to do alot of VPN work (from home) and the
transfer of files from work to my machine is fine - but the other way
around ? ouch !

Can SDSL really take off for home users ? The price will *never*
match that of ADSL (obviously) - but can even the extra increase in
cost be justified for the majority of home users ? Until that can be
done, I cannot see the price of SDSL becoming at a reasonable price
for Home users to afford in the first place !

SDSL has been available via certain ISP's for some time, but
has been targeted squarely at the business user, as an
alternative to leased line. I cannot see a home version
making an appearance any time soon ;-)

Can you get a SLA on SDSL? If not those prices really are a big too high!

I've been looking through some BT docs and SIN articles to get a
confirmation on SLAs for SDSL lines - but its difficult to get BT to
quote anything concrete.

The SLA is significantly better for BTWholesale's customer though
(which, as a consumer, is not you - but your ISP). This SLA should be
passed onto you though - in one form or another.
