Nice to read, but I was just wondering what difference does it make when you
migrate from a "Engineer Installed" as opposed to a "Self-Installed"
product. Zen will not allow the migration from the "Engineer Install" - I
can't see for what reasons??

I am pretty sure they will allow it, as long as your new ISP actually
supports incoming migrations to an engineer install product. However, I
doubt many - if any - do.

Its a BT Wholesale limitation.

"Engineer Installed" to "Self-Installed" migration is not currently
possible.

This is due to the fact that "Engineer Install" ADSL comes with a supplied
ADSL modem/router (still owned by BT) and hence their are "ownership" issues
as most ISP's want to transfer customers to "wires only"deals (where a ADSL
modem/router isn't included in the package)

"Engineer Installed" to "Engineer Installed" migrations are possible,
however.

Regards
Sunil

probably contractual between ISP and BT Wholesale. Some time back
when Claranet reduced prices for 'wires only' customers there was
some statement that they would treat past customers with 'engineer
installed' ADSL as if they were 'wires only'. Perhaps Steve (the
MD), or someone at Clara could shed some light on it... Peter M.

and cancelling might be the other option... someone told me he was
wanting to switch from BTO 500k to another service. BTO offered him
1000k for 26.50 a month to keep his business but then wanted to bill
him more, and could find no reference to the lower price they offered
so he is cancelling. They did send the bag to return the Alcatel, but
didn't initially want it back (it was automatic when switching him to
1000k - now he is closing his account he will be happy to return it,
as he has a router in place anyway... Peter M.

I went from an "BT Engineer Install" to "Free Zen Install" - but on another
line. Suffice to say BT never asked for the Stingray back.

Probably because BT make it complicated. When I made such a move - it
was before migration was possible - I didn't move home but changed ISP.
I had to have the old one disconnected (Engineer installed) and started
a new self-install. BT refused to install the new ADSL since there was
an incompatible service - ADSL. It had been disconnected, but as we
still had the equipment they had "leant" us they would not release the
"service". Considering that we had paid a high installation charge and
terminated a one year contract after three months (and paid the
remaining nine months), one would have thought that they had more income
from that termination and a new installation than the cost of a modem
and face-plate.

Indeed, I would have thought the time taken by the engineer to come and
remove these items was rather more than their value.

I can fully understand an ISP wanting to avoid the unnecessary and
additional complications this sort of nonsense will create for them.
