A bit of a summary of the last few stories on uk-bug as I've been away
for a while.

Hope everyone had a good festive season, and maybe your wishes and
dreams for 2004 come true (awwwww aint I a soppy sod ! lol )

Anyhoo .. the on topic stuff .... sorry about the length .. but some
interesting stories during the month of Dec....

BT and McDonald's are joining up to offer wireless internet access in
many of the fast food giant's restaurants.

"Wireless hopes for rural broadband"

The Department of Trade and Industry has boosting the chances for
rural broadband by opening up the 5.8GHz Band C spectrum.

Plusnet response to Ofcom

Following the recent Ofcom announcement last week regarding further
regulation of the UK's wholesale broadband access market, Plusnet have
responded.

Freeserve don't give up...

Even following their recent defeat Freeserve are still continuing
their quest to prove that BT's broadband has been anti-competitively
priced. Freeserve have announced that they plan to bring in the
Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), which is the UK's highest
competition court.

One in five online connected with broadband

New statistics for internet usage have been The Office of National
Statistics' and unsurprisingly broadband use has increased to an
all-time high of 20% in October.

BT - Radio Broadband Access Trials

BT has announced a series of trials to deliver rural broadband
internet access without the need for wires, in a bid to reach its
target of 100 per cent broadband coverage of every UK community by
2005.

Sounds much better than trying to balance my mobile phone on the top of a
wardrobe to get a decent GPRS signal
like I had to in Worcester last month.

I saw this setup in Plymouth recently, and I'd assume it was this service.
Everyone using the service just looked like a bunch of muppets, eating
McFries and McBurgers with McInternetAccess. More amusing was the way they
positioned the Internet access by the window so that (a) passers by would
see what they were viewing (b) passers by would chuckle/taunt the users and
(c) in the summer you won't be able to see a sodding thing.

100% , bet they never come to hull , we cant even get a bt or ntl line here
