Hi Alex,
There's a "how" on the server status page itself (just above the drop
down select. But we connect on the port itself. A ping would be
pointless and unrealistic in most cases.
Put simply we have two server status's. One server based, and one
client based for historical data analysing (much alike your own client
I expect, although I've never downloaded it).
At the moment, until we finish the interface and ensure that the
values submitted by all the clients ( no mean feat I can tell you!)
we're not releasing the service.
