Hiya,
I wonder if anyone could offer me some advice on my network setup.
Currently I have a cable modem connected to a linksys router (BEFSR11).
This router is then connected to a netgear switch (GS105). I also have
a linksys wireless access point (WAP54G) connected.
My two desktop machines (all the machines are running XP Pro SP2) are
connected to the switch (at 1Gbit, love the speed). I also have a
laptop that connects to the wireless anywhere in the house. I have a
wireless bridge in the living room with a hub connected to allow access
for the PS2 and Xbox.
The whole thing is configured using DHCP and works perfectly. I can
connect to the net and browse all the machines through windows.
I am about to receive a company laptop so that I can work at home. The
phone line has been installed and I will be getting an ADSL router.
This router will be configured to dial directly into the company
network and will be wired only.
The laptop has wireless build in and I'd like to be able to use my
existing wireless access point to connect to the new ADSL connection.
I'd also like to transfer files between the company machine and the
local machines and use my local printers (These are connected to one of
the machines and shared).
My networking knowledge is limited to what I've described above and I
have no idea where to start on the problem. I assume I can't just
connect the new router to the switch and have it all work?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Chris
