Two NICS on same network and NIC selection for traffic

If I have two NICS on the same network how can I set all traffic for one
destination IP on the same network to go out of one NIC rather then another.

For example
NIC 1. IP 192.168.0.1/24 DGW 192.168.0.254
NIC 2. IP 192.168.0.2/24

Target IP 192.168.0.3

How can I force all traffic for 192.168.0.3 to go out over NIC2.
All other traffic should go out over NIC1.

Sorry if this is really obvious but I can't think how to do it.

Thanks for any help,
Alistair

If you want to use two NICs in the same subnet to improve throughput,
use NIC teaming. Without NIC teaming, two NICs in the same subnet will give
you grief.

Thanks for the quick response.
Actually I am not running ISA on the server.
What I do have is OCS Mediation services on the server.

I set it up with the idea of one NIC talking to the OCS consolidated
servers\clients and the other to a Dialogic "Voice" Gateway.
I setup with two NICs but didn't really think about the impact of the
network I put the NICs on would have. To cut a long story short voice traffic
is being sent from the wrong NIC to the Dialogic box which responds to the
same NIC. The Meidation service however rejects the traffic as it is only
listening to traffic from the Gateway on the other NIC.

There are a few ways I can sort this out but it would be easiest if I can
achieve the original requirement just by "tweaking" something in the OS.

Hi Keay,

I guess u need to setup ISA Server infrastructure on your network. You can
have your requirement in simplified format using ISA server MMC console.
You can redirect all outbound and inbound traffic coming from 192.168.0.3 to
NIC2 and all other traffic to NIC1.

I hope this will help.

I think that if you put NIC 2 into a separate subnet from NIC 1, you
would get what you want.

If you set the netmask on NIC 2 to 31 bits instead of 24, x.x.x.2 and
x.x.x.3 would be the only two members of that subnet (from NIC 2's point
of view). NIC 2 should then only talk to the target (since no GW is
specified, it won't talk to anyone else).
If you move NIC 1 to something like x.x.x.129 and set the netmask on it
to 25 bits instead of 24, then it will only be in the same subnet as
x.x.x.129-255, which would then not include x.x.x.3, so traffic should
not go from NIC 1 to the target.

If you have other devices at x.x.x.4-128, traffic to them would be routed
through the GW at x.x.x.254 in the above scenario.

Maybe someone else can correct me if I am wrong here?

Have you tried your luck in the OCS setup forum?

Thanks all for the input.

Due to limitations on what I can change I have done the following which has
solved my problem for now.

I have teamed the NICS to give me resilience and better throughput.
In the OCS Mediation server I have configured both edges on a single adapter
card\IP Address.
