Two NICs can't work simultaneously

I recently added another network adapter to the server for
VPN connections. When this adapter is enabled, the web
server and email server on the primary adapter fail. I
tried enabling the second adapter and turning off Routing
and Remote Access to see if the other services could run,
but no luck. I've always worked with multiple servers
doing individual tasks, not much experience with
multihomed issues. Can anybody give me some direction on
what to do for both of these adapters to work at the same
time? The primary adapter has a private IP and the second
adapter has a public IP. The primary adapter also goes
through a router with a public IP. Another thing that
should be known is that the subnets are different. The
primary adapter has a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and the
second adapter has a subnet of 255.255.255.248. Any help
on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your
time.

I do this regularly and have never had a problem. I make
sure both NICs are identical and then run them through
RRAS. As long as each is on a seperate switch there have
been no issues for me. Only once did an error occur
through a VLAN scenario but that remedied rather quickly.
Can you ping around the interfaces through CMD?? If so
the issue is something other than the NICs.
