Two machines - same router - different download speeds

I have two machines which share a US Robotics 9003 router, using its two LAN
Ethernet inputs and a half-meg ADSL service.

One machine (XP Prof) operates more or less at 512K download and 256K upload
as expected, however the second machine (XP Home) only appears to download
at about 65K but uploads at 256K. I got these measurements by using the
test available at www.adslguide.org.uk .

The NIC in the 'slow' machine (Broadcom 440x 10/100) reports it is running
at 100 Mbps.

Any ideas as to why one machine is so much quicker than the other at
downloading?

Thanks,

Noel

Look into TCP/IP Settings-Particularly RWIN.

Search on dslreports

Look at TCPOptimizer http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

You suggested a great website when you directed me to
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php .

I ran the TCPOptimizer program and I am now enjoying the full half-meg
speed.

I am so grateful and would suggest anyone with speed problems tries it.

Cheers,

Noel
