Server 2003 Standard with two nics on private lan. Can I assign one ip
address on one nic and another ip address on the other nic, but both not be
on the same segment? I want to reduce the amount of traffic that is going
through my router.

Thanks!

Sure. you should be able to do so. What you need to take care of the default gateway.

So you are considering routing [RRAS] that traffic thru your server? Not a
good plan. Never do with software what you can do with hardware.

You could, yes.

That isn't going to be the result. The only traffic going "though the
router" is traffic destined for the "other side" of the router, nothing is
going to change that. If you mean the device has a built-in
"Switch",...then traffic going through the switch part of it has nothing to
do with the routing or NAT'ing part of it. The fact that more than one type
of device is built into the same physical piece of plastic is irrelevant.

I did the same thing but I'm having issues with the gateways (I think)

NIC 1 = 192.168.11.10 Gateway = 192.168.11.6
NIC 2 = 10.50.4.10 Gateway = 10.50.4.1

Can ping one and not the other, unless I disable the other NIC.

A machine can only have one default gateway, not one per NIC!
