Two internet connections, two routers, one network

I currently have a cable modem connected to a D-Link DI-624 wireless
router, connected to an 8 port switch, which connects 5 hard wired
computers. The wireless router also serves two wireless computers. The
only purpose of the switch was to expand the ports, as the router only
has 4.

What I need is to maintain the current conectivity, with the cable
modem providing internet connectivity for all these computers, except
for one of the hard wired ones. I would like to add an ADSL modem into
the mix to provide internet connectivity for just the one computer. As
far as internet connectivity, this machine would be isolated from the
others. However, I would still like that computer (file server) to be
accessable by the other computers on the local network.

Is this possible by linking the ADSL in through another router, and
setting the gateway to a different address, then setting the lone
computer to use that gateway?

One person has told me that this can only be accomplished using two
identical VPN routers with a VPN connection between them. I'm having
trouble understanding what the VPN specific connection buys me. Any
ideas, suggestions, wisdom, or direction appreciated.

What you need to do load balance the two WAN links. The total bandwidth will be the sum of
the two WAN download and two LAN upload speeds. The Edimax PermaLink PRI-682 is a device
with 2 WAN ports and performs load balancing.

Except that I don't really want to load balance. It just happens to be
the way the services work here, but the two connections offer
distinctly different services (e.g. one has high outgoing bandwidth,
but limited data transfer, the other has different newsgroup access,
high incoming bandwidth, low outgoing, but unlimited data). I want to
specifically take advantage of the services by contolling which
computers access which connection.

I think this is what you need to do. It sounds like you want your file
server to use the DSL connection exclusively but you still want it to be
reachable from your other network. What you need to do is get yourself a
second NIC in your file server. Once you have that, plug one NIC into your
network and the other into your DSL modem. Make sure your default gateway
is set on your NIC going to the DSL modem. Then set a persistant static
route for your home network. Just to make sure yhour file server isn't
going out your cable connection, you can even block it's MAC address on your
D-Link to rpevent any traffic from going out that way.

Hope that helps.
