Two identical PCI NICs

Redhat 7.1 kernel 2.4.21
I have two identical PCI NIC cards I want to use in my firewall box. I have
aliased them in modules.conf:

alias eth0 8139too
alias eth1 8139too

I have done this with ISA cards by specifying the address and/or IRQ
settings with options. With the dynamicaly assigned IRQ and address of PCI
cards I don't thik this will work. Both cards work. The system will find
either one as eth0 but always says eth1 is an unknown interface at boot.
Any advise appreciated. Thanks. Richard

Just a little suggestion, have you tried installing only one nic first?
Install one first, let RH recognize is and boot. Then install the second
one later.

I have read about this, I would be very interested to know how it works

No, but it is a good idea. I'll let you know. Thanks.

No, that didn't work. Got another NIC with a tulip chip and that worked.
Still going to fool with this. Should be some way.......
