Hi,

We are running a Windows Server 2003 File Server. We are approx. 50 users.
It is not often that one particular file is accessed at the same time by
more than one user, but it can happen. A certain server software, that we
are considering purchasing/installing on the same server, requires that
Opportunistic Locking be turned OFF. Besides probably slowing performance,
I am wondering if I am risking data loss if two or more people try to
open/modify the same file at the same time.

Would there be any other effects from turning Opportunistic Locking OFF that
I have not mentioned?

Your input would be greatly appreciated!

James

Just turn it off. The performance difference probably isn't even measurable
(IMO). You also only have to turn it off on the machine with the resource,
you don't do it on every machine.
