I got a Dell 2300 b/g wireless router (free with the laptop I bought).
Yesterday I was on the wireless all afternoon and evening-no issue.
Today I tightened up the config and set it to use WEP and not
broadcast the ssid.

However, My laptop constantly disconnects from the wireless network
and then eventually says Wireless network found... My laptop is two
feet away from the router. Singnal strength Excellent, speed is 48 or
54Mbps. It just happened again in the time it took to compose this.

Anyone have similar experience with Dell's wireless and enabling
encryption? I suspect WEP is the cause. I'll eliminate different
aspects of the config until it stabilizes again.

I'm wondering if this router is just crap (it was free with purchase
so i can't really complain)

BTW the cycle occur every 6:20(minutes:seconds) or 6:30. Regularly.
Most of them are 6:20 apart but every few times the gap is 6:30. The
router shows this when the laptop makes a new DHCP requests after it
re-joins the network. So I'm thinking the connect is dropping probably
every five minutes.

See my post in reply to "intermittent connection w/ Gateway laptop...".
Maybe this will help

Also see reply to "interesting problem". If the issue only started happening
after turning on WEP, you need to be sure the WEP keylists are identical.

I read both of your posts earlier (Peter & Gary).
The problem stopped around noon. After that only twice has it bounced.
and not in the last 2 1/2 hours. That is a comfort--I'm less concerned
about the quality of the product.

I think it was caused by some construction workers who are working on
the kitchen upstairs (2-family house). I know certain Nextel phones
can cast off a lot of electromagnetism. And Nextels are used across
the board in construction. At a previous job, when the building
services guys would talk on their phones as they passed my office my
monitor would blur and go bonkers until they walked away. At my
friend's office her nextel makes her desk phone ring softly if she
keeps the Nextel on the desk.

I didn't use the laptop till late afternoon yesterday-there were no
workers at that time. I'll know tomorrow or the next day when they are
back.

Thanks.
