Trying to get media sharing to work

I've got a two computer home network. One has tons of music and photos (I'll
call this the "big" computer) and I'd like to use these on the other (the
"little" computer). I have followed the directions for media sharing under
the Network and Sharing Center and the "big" computer sees the "little"
computer just fine but the "little" computer can't see the "big" one. I have
even tried setting the media sharing feature up first on "big" then on
"little" and then first on "little" and then on "big." No difference. I am
obviously missing something. Any one got an idea?

You probably have a browser problem (I'm not discussing Internet Explorer here).
The browser is very sensitive to NetBT settings, and personal firewalls.

We could try to diagnose the problem, using logs from "browstat status",
"ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each
computer. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):

Chuck, thanks for the information. Before I follow it, I need to ask if this
will work with Vista. I should have noted that in my first message, sorry.
All of these instructions relate to XP.

All of these are basic diagnostics, and will run fine in Vista. They will have
to be run as administrator - see Command Windows For Vista.
