This is my first time doing this, and I can't transfer
files from my desktop to my laptop. I also do not want to
use the internet to connect, because I will not be able
to. I have a LAN category 5e cable from Staples and I
tried using it to connect both computers, but I can't. I
do not have a networking wizard on my windows 98
desktop.....how am I going to get it? Thanks a lot.

sincerely,
mars

Question one - you say you have a Cat5e cable - is it a normal cable or is
it a crossover cable? Unless it's a crossover cable nothing else you do
will get this to work.

I have the same issue, except I have a crossover cable. I
have read several articles about doing this (but nothing
specific), but I have never got it to work.

My first job is to move files from my Win98 desktop to my
Win2000 laptop. Then my Win98 machine leaves with my
daughter who will return my Win95 desktop with which I
will set up a wireless network.

So I need to understand all the steps from the beginning.
If there are articles or sites where this explained in
detail that would be excellent.

Thanks in advance.

Both have good start-up networking guides.
