Hello,

I have 2 computers that Im trying to connect so we can
share our DSL connection. One computer has WinME and the
other has Win98. They both have network adapters and are
connected with network cable.

I tried using the home networking wizard on the WinME
system and everything seemed to work ok. I used the disk
it made on the Win98 and it told me everything was ready
to go. The problem is that I can't see the other computer
on either one. I can see it's own icon in the Network
Places but not the other.

Am I missing something? Can anyone offer some advice or
suggestions? I'd really like to have this set up soon.

Thank you for your help!

Are you using the correct network cable? Computer to computer connections
as you described require the use of a "crossover" cable rather than a
sraight though network cable.

Did you install file and print sharing? Did you share anything? Can you
ping each computer from the other?

if that helps) and standard Cat 5 network cable.

I do have file sharing active and I dont know how to ping
the computers.

Thanks for your help, I look forward to your reply

You need a "crossover" ethernet cable to connect directly the network card
of one computer to the network card of a second computer. You can use
straight through cables if you connect both computers to a HUB or switch
rather than directly to each other.

See here:

It is always more simple to buy rather than to make crossover cables.
