Hi everyone i am new to Server 2003 so please be patient with me

I am a 3D Animator and my goal is to setup a rendering server where
freelancers can connect to my renderfarm. I read a bit of information about
VPN and it seems that this technology is what i need to kick this project off
the ground. I hope you guys agree A little information on the rendering
server. THe server is called backburner and its an additional tool to 3D
Studio Max 6. It can look up clients on subnetmasks which i can edit. I read
a tutorial on this with win xp and how to make it work. As you guys know Xp
only accepts one connection at a time, which is not enough for me ;(

This is the link for those who still dont know what i mean:

http://www.3dkingdom.org/modules.php...rder=0&thold=0

Ok now what i would like from you or someone is to help me to setup the
server from scratch. Lets assume i made a fresh install of Server 2003.
The outcome should be that the computers that connect to my VPN server just
connect and be able to write and delete files on one specific folder and dont
start to use my internet. I posted a question before if you are searching the
newsgroup for my name you should find it (ralph macdouglas). It s about
accessing folders. 2 nice people answered and mentioned WINS running. I
assume you gus can help me with that too, I hope.

So summarize what i assume i need to setup:

Server 2003
VPN
NO DHCP (No shared internet)
WINS
USER ACCOUNTS that have access to files and folders
and everything else you guys think that is necessary to get this job done.

My specs:
Server 2003
2 NIC but i would prefer to do it with one if not no probs
1.5mbit dsl on a dlink 624+ (i think i have the port open for it but please
mention it again)

THe outcome will not only benefit me. Once this project is completed i will
write a tutorial for my 3D community and mention all your names for helping
me. I hope someone can assist me in this. Please post anything you need I
will visit this post more then twice a day.

Thank you

ralph macdouglas

you ask too many questions on one post. any way, these are my answers.

1. yes, vpn is for this case.
2. if you have a router, you don't need two NICs; if you don't have a
router/firewall, it is better to have two NICs.
3. For the name resolution, it is better to have WINS.
4. No DHCP necessary.

Thx for your answers and I know i ask for a lot. Would you or someone else be
able to help me to setup the VPN with me. I manage to make the dial in work
but not the access to a folder with its permissions. Thats why I want to
start over, since I set every user to have full access and it still doesnt
work. Concerning the WINS I a hvae no clue whatsoever, because i never
intentionaly used it? I will try to get more info on this but if someopne can
tell me how to turn and configure it right be my guest

I am reinstalling the server now.

These are the settings:

I selected the 5 licences options and not the 'each computer needs its own".
Servername is "SERVER2003"
Typical Network Settings using "RENDER" as the name for the workgroup
