IMHO WiFi on XP systems is a real PITA to troubleshoot, and I've seen
XP updates break working XP wifi setups. Microsoft has a
troubleshhoting HOTO that you can find if you search the KB for
"wifi".

Is there any other rescourse for tricks to get a broken xp/wifi
machine working ? I have a machine right not that's giving me
problems. I'm getting a "invalid operation on socket" error.

Device manager says the card is working fine. The card
works fine when put in another machine.

Thanks

I use mke2fs t fix these type issues. So far it has fixed all
Windows issues I've had.

Are you sure it's a "WiFi on XP" issue and not a driver issue or even TCP
issue?

It might be either of these.

I've set lots of XP wifi machines up. When the work they're great.
Once in a while there is a configuration problem on one of them and I
have no luck fixing it.

WiFi on XP is enough of a problem that Microsoft has a KB document on
it. I'm asking if there is any other "how-to" info out there.

Does this sound familiar?? Any ideas would be really
appreciated.............

I have a Netgear DG824M UK Wireless Modem/Router which does a fine job as a
plug in modem, and also pumps out wireless to my laptop with the Netgear
PCMCIA card.

However, I have not yet been able to disconnect it from my computer's
ethernet cable and get it to work as it should, with my Netgear PCI card! I
did spend an hour and a half to Netgear Tech Support who couldn't sort it
out. I should be able to unplug the extension lead and go wireless, but
whatever I try, it does not work!

All of the network settings and protocols were checked, the modem is
working, it works with the PCMCIA card in wireless mode, and I believe we
also checked that the PCI card was working. It was about a month ago, and I
haven't found the time to take on tech support again!!!

Does anyone else out there have this Wireless Modem combination working? If
so, did you have problems, how did you overcome them, and what settings are
you now using. Any other help would be appreciated too.

Thanks a lot

Hi

I use the Netgear DG824M (uk) too...

Very nice "Star-Trecky" look !!..Anyway......>>>>

I have used a belkin PCI card (54G) in my main comp, and a RJ45 connection
as
well in the same machine, and have managed to UN-PLUG the RJ45 connection so
as to use the WiFi
side with no problems.

I also use the laptop with RJ45 (for large file transfers) and the WiFi
(Belkin and D-Link) for surfing the net.. I have had no problems -> apart
from the WiFi device not assigning an IP address from the DHCP server
on the DG824M, so I just right click on the WiFi icon on the taskbar-> view
available wireless networks-> click on connect a few times, or try to
"repair" the connection.. This seems to work for me, you could also trying
an alternitve IP address in the advanced bit of your card, so if a DHCP
signal isnt recived, after a failed "repair" the alternitive configeration
should kick-in and you will be up and running...

(you do have DHCP switched on in the DG don't you???)

No other connect problems apart from the NTP didnt work (big story for
Netgear that
was!!!) until I downloaded the updated flash for it..so now I have the
correct time and date Yippeeee

Regards
Alan
