Troubles with Wanadoo/Router connection

I'm trying to set up a Wanadoo connection for a friend using a router.
The connection is currently fine using the Speedtouch ADSL modem, but I
can't make a connection with the router.

It's one of these Edimax jobs
http://tinyurl.com/4htkx

I know I have a correct username and password, and I believe that Wanadoo
like most requires VPI to be 0 and VCI to be 38
I've also got the following information from the Wanadoo help pages:
"Encapsulation:
PPP over ATM

Multiplexing Method:
VC-Based"

I've therefore selected 'PPPoE VC Mux' as the Encapsulation setting.

Sadly, the thing won't connect even though the light on the router suggests
that it can see, and synchronise with, the ADSL signal.

Do I need to setup MAC address spoofing? Is the connection tied to the
supplied modem MAC address?

Or what else might I be missing?

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers

Nope...you need 'PPPoA'... PPPoE is 'over Ethernet' - which it isn't, in
this case.

That's a very fast response. I think i've also tried PPPoA, but now that I
know what it should be I'll have another play.

Cheers.

(Now why couldn't the Wanadoo people tell me that...............)

a faster response might have been to phone Wannado. If there was no joy
there, then that would have required a response telling us all how crap
they were.

Oh, I phoned Wanadoo alright.
Stupid tart didn't even understand the question.

Phoned again, another random droid, still didn't understand.

There's no way that their staff know as much as can be found by asking
politely on Usenet.

Wanapoo? If you phone them you'll get the latest guy/girl off the street that has
been given the script that says "We've no problems here - try reinstalling Windows".

Put all their help desk together and you won't get a decent intellect!

I got this out of Wanadoo after first being told that they didn't answer
questions about third party equipment. Hope it helps. Don't forget the @fs
on the end of the username.

Carl

NB. I scrapped my Wanadoo 'livebox' when it went faulty. I also scrapped the
wireless card when that went faulty as well! I spent almost three hours on
the phone to a dozen help desk (?) people trying to sort that lot out!

yes Wanadoo settings are exactly the same as BT Yahoo I switched a
router out a few weeks back and just had to change the login name and
password.

Cheers all.

Half of the problem was the way you get the router to save it's new
settings. The other problem was that I had to disable MAC address spoofing.

Done now, cheers.
