I am a newb using the wireless router. I have a Dlink wireless router
DI624. I am having trouble setting it up. The router is connected to
my computer and my laptop is having trouble connecting to the router.
When I go to "Wireless network Connection" properties I see two
connections. One is Linksys and the other is default. If I used the
Linksys I can surf the web. I don't know who's connection that is and
I know that can't be mine. The Linksys connects at 11mps. The
default one connects at 54mps but I can't surf the web. I used the
Dlink configuration on the web and it still does not work. I'm using
pppoe to connect to the web. I can use windows pppoe to connect to
the net with my laptop but at the same time if I use my computer to
connect to the net using PPPOE then one are the other will get
disconnected. I just bought a laptop and I don't know what is wrong.
Is it my laptop or my wireless router. Hope you guys can understand
what I'm talking about. Any suggestion would help and TIA for helping
out.

The Dlink router should ideally be placed between your cable / DSL ?
modem and your computers. The modem should be plugged into the WAN
port, and the computer into one of the LAN ports. You then have the
problem to sort out which device (modem or DLink 624) does the DHCP
serving etc.

You have two issues - connecting to the router and connecting to the
internet. Connecting to the Access point of the router should be easy
- thats the 'default' wireless connection. Connecting to the internet
seems to be the problem - you say it works on the computer you run the
pppoe client from - try setting the pppoe details in the Dlink router
so that will do the logging for you, then you dont have to worry about
using the pppoe software.

The other way is to manually configure the network and use windows
internet sharing (ICS). The chain would be modem - DI-624 - computer
- Di-624 (into the LAN ports) - wireless notebook. Turn off DHCP in
the DI-624. Login with pppoe on your computer. Manually configure
the IP address of the laptop wireless interface to point to the
computer (gateway and dns server) with ICS thurned on.
