You're thinking of NetBEUI, which is a network protocol that's
available, but unsupported, in Windows XP. You can install NetBEUI
from the Windows XP CD-ROM, but Microsoft hasn't tested it and doesn't
give technical support on it.
You're on the right track by removing all protocols except TCP/IP.
Using more than one protocol can make a network unreliable, especially
when Windows XP is involved. I've written a web page about that:
