Trouble with a mapped drive

I have a win98 client who occasionally gets an error
message: P:\\(mapped drive)Not Accessible. Access denied.
Prior to this happening, the user will have already
opened shared files and folders on this drive with no
trouble. After the message appears, any attempt to open
the shared drive fails and the user needs to reboot to
correct the issue. Any help on this is greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

Forget the mapped Drive and try using the network path, or a shortcut to the
network location. See what it does then.

Phillip:

One more question. Like you suggested, I tried typing in
the network path to create the shortcut and the server
could not be found. I was able to ping the server
successfully using both the IP Address and the Netbios
name. Do you have any ideas why this machine can't find
the server when I type in the path?

Thanks . . .

Too many variables. The error only says that it can't be found, but not why
it can't. Since you can ping by both name and IP then it is not a
"networking" issue, but something more permissions or "service" related.
Maybe there is a "personal firewall" running on it, maybe File/Print Sharing
is disabled or unbound from the Nic, maybe there are other failed services
on the server, maybe the "administrative shares" are missing and there are
no other shares created,...and on and on and on. The list could go on
forever without more to judge from.
