Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out this
problem...I have a wirelss card (3com 11g PC-CARD) but when I try to
connect to my landlords wireless access point, he has to turn of WEP
encryption ofr me to connect to the DHCP server. With WEP on, I only
get the standard windows self set IP (169.xxx.x.xx). I've tried
updating the drivers and 3com connection manager, but stil havent
tried it. But the 3com connection manager now displays an error when
I try to change my profile, or create a new one. any Help would be
much appreciated

Did you enable WEP on your computer?

Fundamentalism is fundamentally wrong.

If you're using the NetBeui protocol on the NIC, try swtiching over to
NetBios.

My 3COM 802.11g was a bit buggy and had strange disconnects now and then.
Check for a firmware-update for the PCCard and the Accespoint (AP). This
helps.

- Check for the WIFI-updates on www.microsoft.com (WEP and WPA) in case
you're using XP etc.
- Reinstall the drivers for your PCCard (use the latest!)
- Start without encryption on PCCard and AP
- Try to connect
- if this works.. add your MAC-address to the AP-accesslist using the
admin-page
- is this works: enable WEP (better: WPA) on the AP and PCCard.

Good Luck...

John

Check the Card-ID, then download the files from 3COM

I had same symptoms with a Broadcom 11g trying to connect to a Netgear
wireless 11b router. Solution was to use a manual hexadecimal entry for
the WEP setting in the router, as opposed to the passphrase that worked with
my Netgear wireless cards.
