Trouble connecting two LANs together wirelessly

Hi guys,

I'm wanting to set up a wireless connection between two rooms in my
flat. Let me outline the situation.

Room 1: PC, Broadband internet router, switch and US Robotics
Multi-Function Access Point, all connected together

Room 2: Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Router (router functionality unused)
connected to Xbox and TiVo.

Now, I want to be able to connect to the Xbox and TiVo from the main PC
(going over the wireless link) and let the Xbox and TiVo connect to the
internet via the router in Room 1.

I've set the Linksys up (had it for a while) as an access point, and can
connect to it using my laptop with wireless card in it. However, I
cannot get the US Robotics AP to connect to it. I've chosen the Access
Point Client mode for the US robotics kit, which should allow it to
connect to a remote access point as a simple wireless client, but am
unable to ping between each side of the wireless link.

Any ideas? Obviously WEP and the like is off until I get it working
successfully.

Cheers,

A.

You need a "bridgeable" accesspoint and the linksys isn't one. Dlink 900+ is
one... connect it to the linksys and that should fix one end. Not sure about
your other US Robotics
Multi-Function Access Point. Read the manual to see if it can be used in
bridge mode.

Damn!

I thought that was what 'Access Point Client' allowed you to do -
connect to another access point that didn't support bridging. Is that
not the case?

If I chuck the Linksys and get another access point that supports
bridging, presumably I'll be able to connect both rooms together (by
selecting bridge mode on both APs) and still be able to connect my
laptop to the wireless network - right?

Cheers,

A.

With an AP that can work in "bridge" mode you will be able to do as you
want. You needn't chuck anything. Connect a bridgeable AP to one of the
linksys ports (not the WAN port). Then set up the USR AP to operate in
"bridge" mode (assuming it can do so). I believe an AP in client mode acts
like a single wireless card connecting one PC to another AP.
