I've just bought a linksys wireless g router. Previously I had a usb
external modem for my laptop. In the instructions for setting up the
router it says to disconnect the modem and then plug the wire that used
to go to the pc into the router. But the wire from the modem to the
laptop is a usb? How can I connect this to the router??

Would appreciate your help in setting this up.

Peter

If your modem only has USB, you can't plug that into the router. Does
the modem have a cat-5 port ?

Peter you will need to get yourself a ethernet cable (about 6 bux)
to connect from the modem to the router. Most routers now include
that cable (it may be blue). Just connect that between the modem
and router (remembering to power cycle the modem after connecting
the router).

The USB cable will no longer be needed for that purpose but don't
throw it away...one can never have too many USB cables....

Cheers!
