Hi,

How should I go about debugging/fixing this problem? I connect my
Internet cable to my x86 machine running just-installed Fedora Core 2.
The light at the back of the network card turns on and I've verified
the cable is sound by connecting to another machine that gets an
Internet connection. However, upon Fedora startup, I get the message

Determining IP information for eth0 ... failed: no link present: check
cable?

Cable is definitely plugged in. How should I start solving this?

Thanks, - Dave

Post the result of

ifconfig -a

(run as root).

Maybe your setup does not have the network card driver.

Also, check your ISP information whether the Internet
connection uses PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE).

Why did you just install FC2, it's ancient. Try Fedora Core 5
it'll support your hardware better.
