Trigger level hit - what router to buy?

My trigger level for the exchange i am on was hit today (went from 211 ->
250 in one day!) and so the exchange i hope will be BB enabled in a few
months time.
I've started investigating what to buy for BB connection and I'm leaning
towards getting a Router.
I am a little unsure what to get and what i actually need to be honest!
I have a main desktop PC and a laptop and i do quite a bit of gmaing so
latency is an issue.

I've been looking at something like:-

Router connected to phone socket and wired (ie not wireless as this will
affect gaming latency, will it?!) to PC via PCI network
card:-http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9k
dWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=16435
I like the look of
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...d19wcm9kdWN0X2
92ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=44047 although its b and not the latest g....is there
any g models out there with all in one packages like this? I noticed on most
routers that the ADSL modem doesnt come as part of the modem and u have to
buy one seperate, would this be a better idea or not or doesnt it make much
difference?
I also intend on getting a wireless network card for the laptop to use
around the house and so chare the ADSL connection, i dont play games on this
so it doesnt matter if its wireless (if it affects gaming as i said
above!):-http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wc
m9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=23667

So would these 3 items do the trick or should i get something else?

If you are looking at a package that has an ADSL Modem, provides wireless
connection, and a 4 port 10/100 switch to up to four PCs all in one box,
have a look at the Vigor 2600We.

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/hardware...igor2600we.asp

It's a bit pricey, but has worked very well for me so far (9 months). There
are other ADSL routers out there:

Several manufacturers have announced "all in one" products using 54G - my
the time your exchange is enabled you will have quite a choice available.

Buying separate is normally around twice the price as buying a combined
unit..

I paid the extra and went for the Draytek2600we and
as a relative nooby, found it not too hard to set up and
so far very reliable.

If you're coming from dialup, then pretty much you can forget about latency.
Broadband is very different, and you're unlikely to notice latency issues,
even using wireless etc.

I've currently got ISDN. Theres another question.... <g>

Will an ISP i choose as my BB provider have the ISDN removed via BT or will
I have to get BT to remove it beforehand? How much does it cost to remove
ISDN?

Choose an ISP which offers BT's HH-->ADSL "managed conversion" option

The engineer will come to your house, remove the ISDN line and install
ADSL - cost £50 (payable to BT)

If it fails the ADSL line test, the engineer will reinstall HH/ISDN and you
will not be charged anything.

It is possible for you can pay BT to remove the ISDN and then apply for ADSL
afterwards as 2 different processes but if you do this and fail - you will
have to pay to be reconnected to HH if thats what you then wanted (+ a new
12 month contract) - also BT would charge £50 to remove the HH/ISDN line
anyway so its no cheaper...

Nildram did a straightforward conversion from HH to ADSL. The BT man came,
sorted it out and I paid £58 (a year ago now). Unless the rules have
changed, you had to make sure you had been on HH for over a year or you
would get charged for the remainder of the year's charges by BT.

Thanks Steve and Sunil. I've been on ISDN for about 15 months now, my line
is about 2.5km from the exchange so I should be ok <crosses fingers>.
I found the ISP's who do HH -> ADSL on adslguide.org and 2 of the 3 i was
interested in using (Nildram and Plusnet) both do the conversion....Zen my
other choice dont it seems (unless the list is out of date).

Thanks again.

I am in a similar possition to Stu regardng my setup and fancy the Vigor
2600.

My question. Is gaming that bad over a Wireless conection on my laptop? or
would it be playable but not as good?

I suppose I can always hardwire the laptop for gaming and just use wireless
for browsing. would this be easy to setup (networking noob) ?
