Hello chaps,

Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to do in my situation...

Situation:

1. Upgraded firmware months ago, all went terribly wrong.
2. Reverted to firmware on supplied CD.
3, Everything worked but DNS forwarding is flakey.
(Resolved by manually adding Nildram's DNS IP addresses to all
machines on home network.)
4. Attempted to save config, saved OK
5. Printed out screen shots of all the config (just in case, after the
last time's pain!)
6. Attempted to use the firmware upgrade tool to make a backup -
Failed.
(Not too bad, as I still have the "2.2.1 Annex A" firmware on disk)
7. Upgraded to "2.5_UK" firmware.
8. Complete reset back to factory settings.
9. Did config from screen shots, all connects fine. SHOWTIME!
10. Cannot use the "NAT Setup/DMZ Host Setup" form for popup dialogs
appearing every time the focus moves in the browser!
11. Cannot use the "NAT Setup/Open Ports Setup" form as the form does
not render, so I cannot click on anything to add an entry!

Has anyone been here and is there a fix? Or has anyone got an older
(but not 2.2.1 Anex A) firmware upgrade floating about that actually
works? (The draytek sites dont seem to carry old firmware just in
case you need it!)

Copying responses to (E-Mail Removed) would be
appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Chris.

Hi Christian,
I suppose you've posted this to the Draytek forum...?

http://www.forum.draytek.co.uk/

There are some good folk there who may be be able to help... (especially
RedFox).

There have been a number of posts there in the past expressing problems when
flashing Vigor routers with new firmware...

regards,
James.

P.S I've 2 Vigor 2600 and I've left the firmware well alone... the 2.2.5
version i'm using on one of the routers has been particularly stable.. if
you're desperate for a copy I have it on CDROM (well version V2K6A223.ALL or
..RST anyway).

Hi,

Not sure what I have on the install CD but I have the following firmware
versions on backup if it helps:

V2.2.5 15/11/2002 OK, I think
V2.3 13/01/2003 May be a BETA version released in error
V2.3.6 REL 14/04/2003 Dodgy/faulty version released in error
V2.3.6 UK 24/04/2003 So-called replacement for above version
V2.5 29/08/2003 Latest

They all worked for me to a greater or lesser extent but there are various
reported bugs and other upgrade problems including some firmware versions
that appeared to totally stuff a fair few routers when trying to flash. Not
just problems getting it to actually download but resulting in a return to
base for replacement kind of stuff ! Make sure you use the Router Tools
(i.e. upgrade utility) for the version you are trying to flash and also
check the draytek.co.uk site FAQs or BB for help/info on stuffed routers,
dicky firmware and so on. I find that it helps to disconnect the line and
either power-down or hard reset before trying to flash. Also, AV or
software firewall tasks can interfere so its always worth closing these and
as many other running tasks as possible to minimise the chance of something
causing a hiccup. Its probably best to ensure that only a single PC is
connected to the Vigor when you flash as well. Tweak my return addy by
removing the obvious to mail me if you want copies of any firmware.

Reading the stuff on the Draytek forum about flashing firmware, I suspect that
not everybody is following the instructions fully and disconnecting the box
from everything except the computer that is going to perform the upgrade, then
performing a power reset before proceeding. I've flashed two Draytek units
following this procedure, a 2200USB and a 2600 and both worked first time.

It's not an unreasonable instruction either. Trying to flash a router that was
connected to the internet and several other local computers would be like
reprogramming your brains while you're still trying to think, so it makes sense
to clear everything first.

Rod.

All very true.
Having said that, I've flashed the firmware 4 times now with everything
connected & running & never had a failure.
I must just be lucky

For those that care and for those searching with Google at a later
date...

I found that flashing the new firmware, then setting up all the NAT
stuff, then setting the admin password seemed to work. It seemed that
once the admin password was set, I was stuffed with NAT config
problems!

In the name of security I was setting the password before setting
anything else. That will teach me to be security consious

I think the "disconnect everything" discussion was good advice,
however in this case, I had disconnected everything prior to doing the
flash upgrade.

I had no idea that there was a forum, so thanks for that info, and
I'll ask there if I have any problems in future.

Thanks for the help and suggestions guys!

Chris.
