Hi:
I'm new to linux and already I'm having a big problem. I bought this
particular pci card to have internet access on my new mandrake 91.
system. However, when I try to install the driver, i get an error
type 1. Basically, whet happens is I get a long string of messages
about changing my makefile toto say _I/lib/modules/'uname
-r'/build/include instead of -I/usr/include/linux My makefile has
neither--it has _I/usr/src/linux-2.4/include. What should I do?
Also, the instructions say to make a soft link linux-2.4 in /usr/src.
I assume this means to make a link to the real kernel in this
location? How do i do this and /or shoyld the link be changed to fit
with the above problem?
Thank You for any help, as I have no internet access and thus no linux
without this!

What "driver"? All the drivers you need already come with your kernel.
That's the idea! Don't use anything else.

What is this card? Show the lspci output. Then you can be advised.

Not "basically". Be exact about what you do and what you see. Cut and
paste with the mouse.

And don't do it anyway.

Are you trying to compile a driver? If you're using a modern distro -
like RdHat 8 or 9, Mandrake 9, or anything like that - it should come
pre-built for just about every conceivable piece of hardware.

Unlike windows, you don't need to install drivers - they're all part of
the kernel.

So, let us know what it is you're trying to do *exactly*. Distribution,
hardware, what you've done, and any *exact* messages you see.

>Specifically, when I bought the piece of hardware (which is a pci

802.11b card, spcifically, the Trendware Tew-223PI) I downloaded from
the trendware site a file that I was calling the driver. It came with
instructions for redhat (and associated rpms, I believe) and for
'other systems' Mine is mandrake 9.1. I ran make and got an output
of messages, (I would copy them here, but I have no internet access)
Now, if there are already is appropriate software in the kernel, how
would I locate and test it. I installed wireless-tools, but I don't
know how to use wireless-tools. really, any advice would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank You

Here's another question: Suppose the drivers or kernel modules or
whatever are already in my kernel...how owuld I access them? every
wizard i try to use has but a few choices for network cards.
