Hmm, this is hurting my head. I would rather see the exact message. You can
also do a net view to pick it up.
But I can tell you this as a guideline, if any identical computer name,
group name, workgroup name, domain name and/or logon user account name
exists in a broadcast segment, then they will be considered duplicates and
not allowed.
If you have the IP in question and you are using WINS, look in the WINS
database. You can also look in DNS.
Another issue that can cause dupe names is a multihomed box (more than one
NIC) that are not teamed. Each NIC is trying to register the same NetBIOS
name on different IPs.
So it depends on your scenario as to where to look for the dupe.
