Transfer files to new PC

Could anybody give me some advise on how to transfer
files. I have purchased a new PC and I bought the cable
that is needed to transfer data between PC's via the
network cable. But I am lost from here. I searched the
Microsoft website, but didn't have any luck.

What type of cable did you get?

Connecting two computers' network cards directly to each other
requires a crossover Ethernet cable. A regular Ethernet cable won't
work. If it's a crossover Ethernet cable, run XP's Network Setup
Wizard on both computers to set up the network:

If it's a parallel data transfer cable (also known as Laplink or
