Tracking a service on Windows Server 2003

I have a Windows server 2003 with an application running as a service. This
service has been stopping randomly, with no indications as to why in the
event logs or anywhere else. Is there some kind of free or shareware utility
available to track this service and log what happens to a text file? Thanks.

The application in question has to provide for the "trail".
