What is the usage of traceroute and netstat?
In what situation we will need to use this two command?
Besides, how to "read" the output of these two command?
Thanks for youe answer.

Thanks for your help.

I do not get a computer with either UNIX or Linux, so the man man is useless
to me.

I have already search the web for my assignment, I just do not understand
when will we need to use this tools.

Finally, I get some answer from some computer magazine.

We use traceroute when their is a connection in the network, but we do not
know which part cause the failure.

We use netstat when we want to know if there are some software trying to
send or receive packets on the network.

Any thing else I miss? I have download the man for netstat, looks like there
are many feactures. May be I should setup a computer with Linux.

For the "read" question, what I mean is what information we get from the
commands? How to analyze the information we get? I can not search the
information about this. May be you can give me some hint.

You do not need to send the answer to my instructor, since he never check
the emails.

I would recommend it. Create about a 6 gig free/unformated/unknown
partition and you should be able to inststall a full featured linux
like Mandriva linux 3 cd set.

Here check the install.

Home page has download mirrors for the LE2005. Later this month the
new release 2006 will be on the mirrors.

I believe you will learn more faster if you were see man pages and try
the different switchs and commands to see what is going on.

This might help http://www.tldp.org

You are right, the only problem is my HDD is too small...

I've install debian before this, but I delete it to free the HDD.

May be I should get new HDD...

But before this, I need Vitamin M...

About the downloading, it is impossible for me, since I still use 56Kbps
modem...

Thanks for your advice.
