Topology Question

I currently have a HomePNA (phoneline network) - 11mbs. My current
setup is:
Cable Modem -> PNA Router -> Phoneline -> (Any comp plugged into
phoneline)

I want to add a router for wireless (802.11g) for a laptop. Should I
put the wireless router before or after the homepna router? And how
would I set this up so I get max speed for everyone? And will all the
computers see each other?

Thanks.

I would say connect your new router to the cable modem and the PNA to
the new router.

I would too, but you'll need to turn OFF the router and DHCP functions of
the PNA router.

Another approach is to just get a Wireless G Access Point and plug it into
your PNA router.

Oops, bad idea I posted. The PNA router won't do 54mbps.

Get the Wireless G router, plug the PNA router into it and turn off both the
router and the DHCP functions in the PNA router.

Or get a PNA bridge that doesn't provide router functions. That's what I
have.

What are you running for your HPNA router? Is it a Linksys HPRO200? If so
then my set up is like this: Cable to HPRO Wan Port-Linksys WAP11 connects
to Lan port of HPRO. The HPNA computers are connected to the HPNA ports of
the router. I tried a similar set up using the Linksys "G" router with the
DHCP disabled and configured like an access point, but I could not get it to
work. The way I have it set up all my computers are able to share files and
printers. Although my access point is a B, I would imagine that they make
one in a G. To get the wireless side of the network (2 laptops) up and
running took 20 minutes from the time I opened the box to setting up the WEP
keys on the second laptop. If you are worried about speed, I beleive the
HPRO passes 100Mbps on the LAN port. Anyway, its fast enough for me to
download pictures from my desktop to my laptop, edit them in PhotoShop and
send them to a networked photo printer without much effort.

How would I turn off the "router", and the "DHCP functions" (and what
are they)? My router has a setup through the web.

And if I turn this stuff off, will I still have firewall security from
the new router? Or still from the PNA? or both (i like extra
security)

Dont have enough ca$h. I'm looking for cheap routers from ebay. I'd
even go for an access point, but they're even more expensive, since no
one sells em discount on ebay.

I don't have that router, but you should be able to go to the configuration
page of the HomePNA router and turn off DHCP. That might be all you have to
do. Oh wait, you'll need to change the IP address of the PNA, as it is
likely 192.168.1.1 and the Wireless router will use that. Pick 192.168.1.199
and that will get it out of the way.

Someone else may be able to give you more specific instructions.
