Tool to monitor PtP connetion continuously

Hi
We have an app that copies 5-10GB each night over a point to point fiber
line. Almost everynigh the program aborts saying the network resource is no
longer available or can not be found. This is usually after halfway thru.
Im looking for tools to troublshoot. I was hoping to find a monitor tool
that will tell me if the connection ever drops.
The developer thinks it is something with the network, but we dont see
anything evident.

I used to use whatsup by ipswitch for that.

Also windows transfers don't work as well over distance as FTP so if you
aren't using FTP you might want to change to it as it can instantly pickup
up where as the slightest hiccup can cause windows file transfer to fail.

I found out part of the problem was my developers never compressed the data
before transferring so our transfers were often delayed. I had them build
in compression and decompression modules for the other end and we never had
a problem again.
