Pipex Communications plc, a major provider of telecommunications and
internet solutions including broadband, voice, web hosting and network
services, today announces that it has entered into an agreement for the sale
of its subsidiaries owning its consumer Broadband and Voice division to
Tiscali S.p.A. (Borsa Italiana, Milan: TIS) for a total consideration of
approximately £210 million, on a debt-free basis, before adjustments. The
corporate broadband customers will remain within the Pipex Group.

The subsidiaries being sold to Tiscali are: Switch2 Telecoms Limited, Pipex
Homecall Limited, Toucan Residential Limited, Pipex Internet Limited and
Toucan Residential Ireland Limited.

I believe not.

>From the link above:

"Following the disposal of the Broadband and Voice division, the Group
will consist of 3 divisions namely Web Hosting, Business Services and
Pipex Wireless (WiMAX)."

123-reg would come under the Web Hosting business which they are
keeping

i'm not a pipex customer, and have never been tempted to be, given
their customer service reputation.

so i'm not in the least concerned about the switch to another isp
whose reputation in that area is also dire.

I'm wondering what's going to happen to Nildram, who I am a customer
of. Pipex already screwed up the migration to LLU of my broadband
service, I now get 1MB less download speed even after resolving the
speed issue I had after migration. I am also suffering at the hands of
an intermittent DNS problem since migration. If Nildram is going to
Tiscali then i'll definitely be off somewhere else. I wouldn't touch
any Tiscali product even if it was the only option available.

I wasn't - 'til Homecall was gobbled up.

All we can hope is that the worst of both don't combine.

Well, I'm with Homecall, who've always used Tiscali servers anyway.
Let's hope that Tiscali don't drag the Homecall customer service dept down
to their level.
Regards Mike.

what's the first thing companies do after a merger/takeover? rationalise
their backoffice departments. Always.

It would appear that Tiscali will be taking the Nildram ADSL customer
base. There might be a little ambiguity about some business customers
who also took non-broadband services but for consumers it looks like
Tiscali now owns the tag on your line (assuming Pipex shareholder
approval, but that's a formality).
