The password for a little used @tiscali.co.uk email account which has
been set up aad in irregular use for years, suddenly a couple of days
ago - stopped working. It needed their tech support to reset the
password, before the account could be accessed - quite quickly
resolved. The correct original password was being used, but not able to
access the account.

Has anyone any thoughts on what might have happened?

A disc crash, another tiscali operator previously reset password on this
account by mistake, a hacking attempt caused account lockout, PC
(mis-)detected as a trojan zombie?

or a subtle burst of radiation from a solar flare flipped a memory cell
somewhere?

The Tiscali/Talk Talk problem has been well documented in recent months,
and even featured on BBC's Watchdog progamme.
It would appear that Talk Talk, when they inherited Tiscali's customer
base after buying them out, found a complete can of worms in their
customer records system, which they are still having problems with.
Apparently, these records were kept in Sicily - nuff said?
The headline problems featured Tiscali customers who had ceased/migrated
service to other ISPs but who were still being billed by Talk Talk - and
receiving nasty debt-recovery letters, demanding money - or else.
Talk Talk apparently wouldn't listen to the ex-customers and kept on
saying "computer says no" instead of dealing with it.
Which is one more reason why I wouldn't go anywhere near Talk Talk.
