Tiscali SNR question

ADSL service started 26 January with Tiscali.

Using Edimax AR-7064+ router downstream figures:
SNR = 6.5 dB
Attenuation = 39 dB
Speed = 7168 kbits/sec

Seems very good, but connection drops once or twice per hour - and continues
to do so now that 10-day training period is well past.

Tried using Sweex CC300011 Router - downstream figures:
SNR = 14 dB
Attenuation = 43 dB
Speed = 6000 kbits/sec
SNR and attenuation vary a couple of dB either way. But connection stayed
solid for a 6-hour test.

I would prefer to use the Edimax router, so is there any way that Tiscali
tech support will understand enough of this to ask BT to limit the maximum
speed that the line will stabilise at? Or is it not worth the frustration
of ringing them?

does this have a speed limit preset ? If not your target SNR margin
has been jacked up and the Edimax should also start at 15 dB with a
lower speed.

they don't do that.
