In case anyone is interested Tiscali is now offering MAC codes - you just
need to ring the cancellations line.

It's 0845 077 4488. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.

Thanks for that Tony,

You don't happen to know if they support migration from Datastream to IP
stream too do you?

Cheers Steve

ps. will they give you a MAC code, even if you are just considering moving
to another ISP, or do you need to confirm your cancellation before they
will give you the MAC?

This is upto the receiving ISP rather than Tiscali. This is possible, but
you'd need to check with the receiving ISP on this - there are no reasons
why they can't migrate between the two but some ISP's haven't quite got
there act together on this. (For example UKOnline won't accept BBDS codes
with the online ordering system.)

One thing to note is that for all Tiscali says, it does have customers on
both DataStream and IPStream - if you get a MAC code starting BBDS, you're
on DataStream, if it starts BBIP - it's IPStream.

Getting the MAC code doesn't commit you to moving, from the email they sent
with my MAC code:

> Before you switch providers we recommend you go to the Tiscali My Account
> area to check the new, great value packages available to you.
>You can change your price and speed at any time. If you change your mind
>and decide to remain with Tiscali, simply do not use your MAC code.

So you could stay with Tiscali if you really, really want to.

What, do you just ring them on the cancellations line and ask for your MAC?
Will they just give it you, or will they assume you want to cancel there and
then? Have they finally changed their policy of giving out MAC codes for
the ones who want to migrate? If I called them and just asked for the MAC
would they give it?

Yup - just ring them up and ask for a MAC code and they'll email it to you.

Don't have a clue if it's a policy change - it looks like it though.

When some users on here emailed bbc watchdog a few weeks ago - they
might have mentioned to watchdog the previous tiscali mac code
resistance to giving it out .
