Joined Tiscali in March 2003. Was lured by the offer of a free modem
and free connection. First few months were not that bad, however, by
June 2003, It all started to go down the toilet. My Broadband speed
became painfully slow, much slower than dialup, to the point where the
service was useless. Made numerous complaints. In the begining, I
called their 090.. number which routes its calls to a call centre in
India. No matter, what subject you called on, you were almost always
given the same advice, delete any third party firewalls and clear your
browser history? Of course this didn't work. Then It was claimed that
there was absolutely nothing wrong with the service and there was no
problem. However, my neighbour also had Tiscali and also had the same
problem. Then I decided to leave complaint messages in their broadband
forum, which were answered and I was told that yes there was a
technical problem with the service in my area, and something would be
done about it. However this was in August 2003. I was also assured
that I would recieve a refund for the time that my service had been
disrupted. From August until now I have had no refund, no explanation
as to why my service was disrupted for so long and no apology.
Additionally, whilst this was all happening, Tiscali suddenly decided
to stop taking direct debits from my bank account for 4 months?????
Then when I noticed that they had done this, I called them and asked
them why this was the case, and settle any outstanding balance. End of
story? No, Last week I recieved 3 threatening letters from their
accounts department telling me they are going to credit black list me
for having an outstanding balance.
I understand that Tiscali do appear to be offering some cheap
broadband deals at the moment, but don't fall into the Tiscali trap.
Their customer service is appalling, technically, from my personal
experiences I don't think their network is that reliable.
Additionally, they appear to be completely disorganised as a company.
