Tiscali Broadband --- Chunk of Turd

Joined Tiscali in March 2003. Was lured by the offer of a free modem
and free connection. First few months were not that bad, however, by
June 2003, It all started to go down the toilet. My Broadband speed
became painfully slow, much slower than dialup, to the point where the
service was useless. Made numerous complaints. In the begining, I
called their 090.. number which routes its calls to a call centre in
India. No matter, what subject you called on, you were almost always
given the same advice, delete any third party firewalls and clear your
browser history? Of course this didn't work. Then It was claimed that
there was absolutely nothing wrong with the service and there was no
problem. However, my neighbour also had Tiscali and also had the same
problem. Then I decided to leave complaint messages in their broadband
forum, which were answered and I was told that yes there was a
technical problem with the service in my area, and something would be
done about it. However this was in August 2003. I was also assured
that I would recieve a refund for the time that my service had been
disrupted. From August until now I have had no refund, no explanation
as to why my service was disrupted for so long and no apology.
Additionally, whilst this was all happening, Tiscali suddenly decided
to stop taking direct debits from my bank account for 4 months?????
Then when I noticed that they had done this, I called them and asked
them why this was the case, and settle any outstanding balance. End of
story? No, Last week I recieved 3 threatening letters from their
accounts department telling me they are going to credit black list me
for having an outstanding balance.

I understand that Tiscali do appear to be offering some cheap
broadband deals at the moment, but don't fall into the Tiscali trap.
Their customer service is appalling, technically, from my personal
experiences I don't think their network is that reliable.
Additionally, they appear to be completely disorganised as a company.
If you visit their forums on the www.tiscali.co.uk website you will
see that my complaint is just the tip of the iceberg.

Anyone thinking of getting Broadband think carefully before you goto
Tiscali

IME, the admin and billing side of their calling card operation is
massively sub-optimal.

And a Google search would suggest famously so.

I stopped my Worldonline/Tiscali account last week because of going with
Metronet Broadband and they stopped the account as soon as they got the
letter, not from the end of Nov as I had asked.

beware they will always try and bill your for services you have not had.
took me months of rows and threatening letters of them. they tried to bill
me when I was with some one else 6 months after I left them.
there scum they had to give up when i said take it to court and prove I was
connected to them.
They lost billin records and ignored all phone conervsations

So you went with the cheapest service available and got exactly what
you paid for. What's the problem ?

are they in any way connected to BTOpenworld? It all sounds depressingly
familiar.

Yeah they stopped mine too :-) 3 months later they started stealing from my
CC account. They ignored promises made on the phone. They ignored a couple

have Tiscali's robbery cancelled. Tiscali got fed up before I did :-)

OK - you'll probably be OK but just watch your CC/Bank statements just in
case !

I have stopped the Direct Debit and will be watching very carefully for
the next few months.

Vulture Capitalist ISP (associated with the Register, Affinity
reseller) continued to bill my debit card for ages after they went
tits up (though I notice they are back up and running again now!)
despite being told many times to stop. Even changing my debit card
number and not telling them didn't work - they still managed to bill
my account! I had to phone up for a form from the bank and send it off
every single month till they gave up...
