I will be getting a Netgear DG834 later tonight. Please does anyone know
how I should configure the Router. PPOE or PPOA and so on......

I have not got a clue. Please could someone point me in the right
direction?

Thanks in advance,

Don

Just follow the instructions to run the setup wizard and it will detect the
settings. All you need to supply are the login and password.

Under the 'Basic Settings' menu option:

Does your internet connection require a log on = YES

Encapsulation = PPPoA (PPP over ATM)

Login = enter your default tiscali email address here
Password = Your Tiscali password

Idle Timeout = 0 (zero)

Internet IP Address = Get Dynamically

Use these domain servers
Primary 212.74.112.66
Secondary 212.74.112.67

NAT = Enable
----------------------------------------------------

Under 'ADSL Settings'

VC based
VPI = 0 (zero)
VCI = 38

---------------------------------------------------

That should get you connected to Tiscali.

Regards
John

My friend has a wireless laptop which has picked up an unsecured
wireless network for some time. He also has in his office upstairs a
desktop PC which he had been using with a Freeserve dial up connection.

Tiscali ADSL comes into the house to a point downstairs at the BT ADSL
V10 box which includes an internal filter, enabling all phones in the
house to be used without individual filters. (This does work we know
because he had broadband before provided by his previous employer.) The
SpeedTouch wireless router is plugged into the ADSL V10 socket and the
BT Voyager wireless network link is on the PC upstairs. This is a USB
device.

Both computers can pick up and access the neighbour's Belkin unsecured
network and obtain internet access through whatever provider he is
using. Both computers can also 'see' the Speedtouch router but cannot
communicate with it. I have entered the WEP codes when asked from the
base of the Speedtouch but neither the laptop nor the PC will actually
talk through it to his Tiscali broadband service.

There must be something we are not doing correctly and would appreciate
some assistance. When we spoke to the Tiscali helpline as soon as we
mentioned wireless, the 'advisor' stopped and said he could not help
further.

Many thanks to all who responded. I can't think what I was worried about.
The router very nearly configures itself.
